Mums Who Hike Named a Finalist in the 2026 Outdoors Queensland Awards

I have some very exciting news to share. Mums Who Hike has been recognised in the 2026 Outdoors Queensland Awards! 🏆

I have been named a finalist for the Queensland Government Outdoor Volunteer Award, recognising individuals who have given outstanding volunteer service to Queensland’s outdoor sector.

To say I’m excited about this is a bit of an understatement!

I started Mums Who Hike in June 2025 with one simple goal: to help mums feel less isolated, get outside with their little ones and connect with other women through nature.

After becoming a mum myself, I realised just how different getting outdoors could feel with a baby or toddler in tow.

I also knew from my background in outdoor education just how powerful time spent outside can be for our confidence, wellbeing and sense of connection.

So, I decided to combine the two.

Mums Who Hike began offering free, fortnightly community hikes around the Sunshine Coast, creating an opportunity for mums to meet other mums while exploring some of our beautiful local trails.

Since then, hundreds of mums and children have joined us.

Why This Award Means So Much

The Queensland Government Outdoor Volunteer Award recognises people who have given outstanding service as volunteers within Queensland’s outdoor sector.

Outdoors Queensland described my nomination as:

“Sabina Kath founded Mums Who Hike in June 2025 to tackle postpartum isolation through nature connection, combining her background in outdoor education with a passion for community.”

Being recognised for something I started simply because I felt there was a need for it is incredibly special.

A huge amount of work happens behind the scenes of every Mums Who Hike event.

There’s researching trails, checking conditions, assessing whether hikes are suitable for parents carrying babies or walking with young children, communicating with the group and making sure our adventures are as safe, inclusive and welcoming as possible.

But seeing a group of mums walking down a trail together, chatting, laughing and helping each other along makes every bit of it worthwhile.

This Nomination Belongs to Our Community

While my name might be on the nomination, Mums Who Hike wouldn’t exist without the people who keep showing up.

Every mum who has joined a hike, carried a baby up a mountain, wrangled a toddler along a trail, shared one of my posts, sent me a message or told another mum about our community has helped Mums Who Hike become what it is today.

It still feels slightly surreal that something I started in June 2025 has grown into a community involving hundreds of mums and children across the Sunshine Coast.

Whatever happens at the awards, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created.
